The obvious inspiration for this painting is the sweep and grace of the sails.  This was a frequent sight on my daily commute to work each day.  I'd see the sailboats racing on the waters of Long Island Sound ... as I raced to the office or returned home over the Throgs Neck Bridge.  I wanted to capture the freedom and exhilaration of being on board.
